Autumnal Wedding Inspiration

Happy Thanksgiving! Today seems like the last chance to celebrate an autumn wedding theme since it is the first official day of the winter holiday season and we’ll soon be swept up into the glitter and wrappings that come with it. So take a moment to remember the rich, warm colors and delicious treats from the fall.

Fall is also a great season for simple, do-it-yourself wedding projects. Wrap votive holders with fake autumn leaves with a rustic tie to quickly dress up your reception tables. Build a tower of cupcakes sprinkled with fall color and/or bake miniature pies with leaf print tops for a laid-back dessert. Pull together your fall wedding with other autumnal color touches such as brown bridesmaids’ dresses, pumpkin centerpieces and foliage inspired escort cards.

Fall Tree Hangings

While autumn typically reminds you of things falling from trees, I say why not hang some back up there? I’m drawn to anything hanging from trees from weddings – whether it is pictures of the couple, tags, notes of well wishes or little cakes. I just can’t resist. Pretty details dangling from the branches while the fall foliage colors lightly cover the ground – how much more picturesque can it get?

During the fall it is particularly easy to pull of this type of décor. The branches are a bit barer and therefore easier to use as hooks and the weather is still warm enough to have an outdoor wedding or reception.

As you know if you’ve been reading this blog, there is no shortage of hanging paper do it yourself decorations to make for your wedding day. So pick one that works best for you!

Fall Can Be Wedding Season Too

Everyone keeps telling me wedding season is over. Who made that decision? Autumn is by far my favorite season and it’s easy to take the seasonal details I crave every year and turn them into the perfect fall wedding.

Apple picking. And by apple picking I really mean watching everyone else apple pick while I eat caramel apples or drink warm cider wrapped in a chunky sweater and boots – perfect. You know I love a good bar so why not do a caramel apple bar at your fall wedding?

Fall foliage. Nothing says a relaxing Saturday afternoon like wandering around Boston brownstones admiring the foliage and sipping a pumpkin spice latte. Instead of having your flower girl toss petals, why not have her toss dried leaves instead?

If you’re getting married this fall don’t listen to them, they don’t know what they’re talking about with this whole ‘wedding season is over’ nonsense. Just show ‘em how cute you can be.

An Outdoor Forest Wedding

With Fall just around the corner, I’m inspired to plan an outdoor wedding. Just imagining all that rich foliage and greenery - with Christmas trees coming indoors soon after! - gets me excited. So this week I’m planning an outdoor, forest wedding utilizing all the natural shades of green for the wedding color palette.

This Salt Lake City wedding takes place in the perfect outdoor venue for the Fall. I like how this couple stepped away from the typical, waterfront-view outdoor wedding ceremony location and opted for something a little more rustic and autumnal. The trees, the stones, the circle of flower petals - I love it all.

And look at these lanterns hanging from the trees. If I didn’t already love the location, that definitely would have won me over.

Also, I can’t help but think of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. I know it may sound weird, but they both met their husbands (princes in fact so even better) in the middle of a forest which makes this setting seem that much more romantic.
