Something Old & Something New

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. I know the rule says you must carry all four when you get married, but can your something old and something new be the same item? Like if you purchase some vintage bling it’s an old piece but a new purchase, so does that count? I say yes. And in the spirit of me deciding you can interpret these rules however you want, I’ve gone ahead and picked out some fabulous vintage pieces for your something old and something new. You can thank me later.

It’s sparkly, vintage and can be worn as a hairpiece. I obvi couldn’t resist.

If you’re going to go vintage, you can’t do any better than a vintage wedding brooch. There’s something about their style that is timeless and elegant. A great modern twist is to wear a small cluster of brooches at the waist rather than one simple statement piece. Or clip one onto your wedding bouquet – that counts as part of your outfit too.

And remember, it’s your big day so you get to make all the rules. Don’t want to wear something old, new, borrowed or blue? Then don’t.

Desirable Details: Lace and Champagne

You have so many options with weddings today. You can have quite literally anything you want, as long as you can afford it. This allows every wedding to be so different – there are hardly any standards anymore. But in my mind there are two wedding must-haves, no matter your style: lace and champagne. They’re both classic, girly and the epitome of celebration. You don’t have to make lace part of the central elements but a touch here and there can add elegance. And you don’t need a champagne fountain, but a simple champagne toast to your new marriage is a bare minimum.

And there is just something about the combination of the two that I just can’t resist. I’m feeling overwhelmingly soft and feminine this week, which you might notice in my upcoming posts. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not usually all about ruffles and pink but every once in awhile I crave some feminine details.

Antique Scroll Wedding Invitations

Classic, vintage and elegant, these Antique Scroll Wedding invitations put a modern twist on a classic design. Scroll detailing adds an antique touch – all the original love letters were written actual scrolls so why not channel some of that energy for your big day? These invitations will let your wedding guests know how special and full of love your wedding will be at first site.

These look engraved and antiqued without paying that large price tag. The intentionally imperfect sketching and font make these invitations look vintage and unique, a perfect way to set the tone of your big day for your wedding guests.

Wedding Dresses. Movie Inspired.

Wedding movies are one of the best places to find wedding dress inspirations (or your actual wedding dress, if you can afford it). Plus I’m a sucker for chick flicks and I’m totally not embarrassed about it. They’re cheesy, you can usually guess the plot before it happens (or the trailer basically tells you everything these days), and they’re stories are never really in line with reality. But I love them and fully defend it.

In 27 Dresses, Jane’s sister’s wedding dress is ideal for anyone looking for a poofy dress. It’s big on the bottom yet remains understated by keeping the glitz and glam in the smaller details. The top is cut in such a flattering way, and I love how the back dips down. Also, that tiny detail of lace in the front and buttons in the back make it perfect. Little details like that always get me. And I know that in real life, Tess’s dress wasn’t actually pieces of her mother’s old wedding dress (it was designed and mass produced by Amsale) but I love the idea of incorporating your mother’s dress into the details of yours.
