Online Wedding Registry
Wedding registries can turn into quite an ordeal. What, where and how much should you register for? If you skip a registration will your guests take that hint that what you really need is money? Decisions, decisions. The modern bride alternative to a traditional registry in stores with a scanning gun is an online registry. Let’s face it, most of your wedding guests know how to, and maybe even prefer, shopping online these days. And online wedding registries like amazon.com allow you to register for everything you could possibly want in one place.
I love Amazon, maybe not as much as Etsy but still. Amazon allows you to find cheaper prices for almost everything and actually has practically everything. Sometimes I start on Amazon when I do my online shopping but don’t actually make a purchase there. Say I’m looking for a teapot to send my mother for mother’s day. I searched teapots on Amazon to look at all of the size and style options. Then once I picked those elements I checked my favorite, smaller sites to get a more unique gift using the elements I picked as a guide.
So maybe if you don’t use Amazon for your gift registry, you can at least use it to find some inspiration.

i’m with you that online registries are great for weddings. and i’m totally an etsy addict. i WISH i could register with them. but since that’s not an option, and probably won’t ever be b/c it’s too darn complicated, i found an option that i thought modern girl might like. have you heard of depositagift.com? it’s a cash gift registry service. we’re ‘registering’ for all kinds of things that we ultimately want to buy as we fix up our new home, but that we’re just not ready for quite yet, and we want the option of buying on etsy or at a market. i think amazon is great for the every day, but for our wedding we’re using deposit a gift so we can take our time and find some really unique stuff. the site is really cute and customizable, and totally green, which is perfect for us and in-line with our values. you should check it out!
Jill, another great site that I found was MyRegistry.com. I created my bridal registry here last month and have received lots of praise from my guests! They liked the fact that they could easily contribute to the cash gift fund that I created (to help send us on our Hawaiian honeymoon!), and all the different stores that I wanted gifts from were consolidated onto 1 registry. What I liked best about the site, was that the cash gift fund was easy to create (and looked really cute!) and I was able to add gifts from anystore under the sun. Another perk was the sweet lil e-nouncement that I was able to create and send out to everyone. MyRegistry.com is definitely another great online registry site to check out!
those are both such great ideas! i love the idea of being able to register for a wedding online - online shopping is one of my weaknesses. it just doesn’t actually feel like spending money so it’s much easier to convince myself it’s okay
i also love the idea of being able to register for help paying for the honeymoon.. definitely better than getting dishes (though those are both practical and probably more handy, though i never claimed to be practical)!
I love etsy more. The items are more original. Pity that they don’t have a registry on their site yet but myregistry.com has solved that issue for us! Yeahy for pretty home decorations
I think registering on Amazon is kind of boring to be honest. It just doesn’t feel like a wedding related site. Etsy would be cute to register on, but I dont think i’d ONLY want items from their site. And I’m on amazon so much as it is, I’d like a wedding registry to feel special.
I havent heard of myregistry, but if you can add items from amazon and etsy, then who needs amazon and etsy?? lol I’m a bad decision maker!! haha
I actually *did* register on Amazon!! It was the only place I felt comfortable registering. I shop there all the time, the pricing is great, and I knew my relatives could afford the items I chose. It wasn’t boring at all - I had kitchen stuff on the list, board games, coffee table books of photography and fine art, electronics - all sorts of neat stuff! Just my personal opinion and preference though and what me and my hubs happen to like
love etsy and love MyRegistry.com for etsy - simply to use and we were able to upload our Williams Sonoma instore registry on there!
My friend just registered at http://www.weddingrepublic.com - online and cash based so you can add anything and guests give cash. She loves it and its incredibly guest friendly..
i’m a huge DepositaGift.com fan! used them for our wedding website as well. we’re registering for all sorts of home decor items that we’ll need for the new place we are about to close on. once we move in i’m going to buy all the stuff i’ve got bookmarked on etsy with our gift money. i was going out of my mind before i found deposit a gift b/c we were going to be moving soon, all while planning the wedding. seriously made all my stress go away and happy to say we’ve gotten big thumbs-up from the guests. i can’t wait for the housewarming party to show them how it all came to life!
I like MyRegistry.com way better than Amazon, plus MyRegistry.com even has an iPhone app to use. Besides, with MyRegistry.com’s wish list…you can add Amazon items to your registry anyway!
